2004 JUL 8 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who suffer from sleep apnea, a condition characterized by periods of halted breathing during sleep, may be at greater risk for developing diabetes, according to new research presented at the 86th Annual Meeting of The Endocrine Society in mid-June 2004.
The findings give doctors another way to identify women who are at risk for developing diabetes as a result of PCOS.
Researchers already know that women with PCOS are at a higher risk for developing sleep apnea and that sleep apnea is linked to insulin resistance. Esra Tasali and colleagues at the University of Chicago, ...
