This book on how independent "local" Orthodox churches emerge from their parent church is a timely contribution to the ecumenical and inter-Orthodox literature. While the text deals with the historical, canonical, and theological principles within Orthodox ecclesiology, it focuses on the American situation, especially the relations between what are called today the Orthodox Church in America, the Russian Orthodox Church, and the Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia.
