CORPUS CHRISTI -- Oil refiners in this Gulf Coast community have announced plans to build, improve and expand their refineries to the tune of $1.4 billion.
Koch Industries Inc. announced an expansion of $600 to $700 million. Citgo Petroleum Corp. plans to spend $480 million to upgrade its refinery. And Valero Energy Corp., which just finished a hydrocracker/reformer unit worth $290 million, held a ground-breaking ceremony for a $230 million methyl tertiary butyl ether plant.
"It's one of the biggest industrial construction periods in this city's history," says Mary Rhodes, Corpus Christi's mayor.
