A couple of youngsters, President Herm Weiner, 74, and Chief Executive Oliver Hale, 77, of South Pacific Steel & Metal Corp. are putting the final touches on a brand-new steel plant in Santa Fe Springs, taking their crack at the local and Mexican finished steel markets.
With 48,000 square feet under roof and equipment that can cut through steel plate up to 14 inches thick, South Pacific is making headway serving the construction industry, particularly structural earthquake modification.
"Many thousands of buildings require earthquake modification," said Hale, a 58-year veteran of the ferrous trade who worked sales for the old Kaiser plant in Fontana. "With ...
