DEFIANT David Bowie was yesterday using time off after an emergency heart operation to write songs for his next album.

The 57-year-old rock star was reluctantly forced to cut short a 62-day tour of the US and Europe when doctors noticed a severely blocked artery during a health check.

Bowie, whose 1971 album Hunky Dory featured the classic hit Changes, said last night: "I'm so p****d off because the last 10 months of this tour have been so f***ing fantastic.

"I can't wait to be fully recovered and get back to work ...
