George Gilbert Scott was the biggest name in 19th-century architecture. With an energy and confidence that could only be Victorian, Scott was the high priest of the Gothic Revival.
He did not so much revive the Gothic style as impose it upon the nation, and there is hardly a cathedral in England that does not bear his imprint.
Add to that about 400 parish churches, St Pancras Station, the government offices on Whitehall and the Albert Memorial, and you have a man who left no small legacy behind him.
