Close to the end of 1989 Haden Drysys Environmental approached Jaguar Cars with an interesting proposition. Haden wanted Jaguar to look at, and consider the installation of a novel plant to treat sludge generated in the paint shop and convert it into a dry powder.

Traditionally the sludge is disposed of by landfill. Improved environmental monitoring of landfill sites had made Jaguar as much as any company aware of the risk involved in disposing of paint sludge, with leaching into surrounding land and water courses always a possibility.
