North Carolina's venture capital picture brightened in May when the Golden LEAF Foundation committed $30 million to a Swiss investment partnership that has track record of investing in North Carolina biotechnology companies and will look for even more deals in the state.
The investment in the HBM BioCapital Fund, managed by HBM Partners of Zurich, boosted the fund's initial closing to $95 million, almost half of HBM's $200 million goal. HBM is focused on investments in later-stage life science companies in the United States and Europe and has about $750 million under management.
