Despite the improvement in general market conditions, there appears to be no chance of any respite for the values of Stage 2 equipment.
The unsuitability of most Stage 3 aircraft for asset-based financing has been apparent for a number of years, despite continued widespread operation. There are still a large number in service. Trading of such aircraft types can usually be undertaken on the basis of the traditional "willing seller, willing buyer, at arms length, and for cash" much more so than for newer types. For the B727, some 40 percent of all those delivered remain in airline service despite the retirement of nearly 700, and another 100 being written off. ...
