A 1944 liquor license issued to The Igloo for beer and wine still hangs on one of the bar's walls. The $27.50 price tag reminds patrons of what prices once were. Now, a similar license for beer and wine runs upward of $2,000, according to The Igloo's current owner Bill Mickelson.
But increased costs aren't the only change The Igloo has seen during its six-decade existence--its neighbors have also come and gone. When L.H. O'Neal--Mickelson's uncle--opened The Igloo on St. Patrick's Day 1944, it was surrounded by orchards. Now The Igloo at 1308 N. Miller St., Wenatchee, is mostly surrounded by Valley North Shopping Center.
