Ulysses J. "Tony" Lupien Jr. of Norwich, Vt., a former Major League Baseball player, college coach and veteran, died Friday at his home. He was 87.
Born in Chelmsford, he was raised in Manchester, Conn., and graduated from Loomis School in Windsor, Conn., in 1935 and from Harvard University in 1939.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Lupien served in the Navy.
After his graduation from Harvard, Mr. Lupien signed a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox and played the 1939 season with Scranton's Eastern League championship team. He played 10 games with the Red Sox in 1940 and became Boston's regular first baseman in the 1942-'43 ...
