Pay close attention, and now and then a single experience will help bring into focus an issue that otherwise seems blurry and distant.
It could be when you discover the trout absent from your favorite lake, done in by acid rain. Maybe it'll be when you walk away from an ugly crash thanks to an air bag. Or as you're searched in an airport as part of antiterrorism measures.
For me, the latest such experience happened last weekend, at my neighborhood pharmacy. It offered a window into some of the most troubling distortions of the prescription-drug marketplace.
