Three years ago, an Exxon drilling near Louisiana's Lake Charles, that would have yielded nothing but dry wells by conventional means, resulted in discovery of an immense natural gas reservoir of some 500 billion cubic feet of gas, 5,000 yards below the surface. In another Exxon drilling in May, 1991, Exxon discovered an oil reservoir of approximately 200 million barrels in the Persian Gulf. Two weeks before that, at a depth of some 1,000 yards under water in the Gulf of Mexico, Shell Oil discovered a 1 billion barrel oil reservoir.
