Billed as the most important exhibition of ancient Egyptian artefacts to be seen in Europe for over 20 years, "Tutankhamen: The Golden Beyond" at Basel's Antiken-museum is the result of intensive negotiations, which overruled a parliamentary vote forbidding the loan of relics from the tomb of Tutankhamen to other countries. The Egyptian's Supreme Council of Antiquities finally agreed to the loan for purely practical reasons: they need money for necessary museum construction and hope to attract more tourists.
