ST. LOUIS _ The St. Louis Cardinals might have taken a significant a step in the right direction on Tuesday as they try to escape the maze of mediocrity that has characterized a season of otherwise-high expectations.
Opening a nine-game home stand, the previously reeling Redbirds rallied for an improbable 13-5 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates in front of 28,869 patrons.
