Labor Day, which the nation officially celebrates next week for the 110th consecutive year, is the least understood of our holidays.
Ask the average Joe or Jane and you'll no doubt hear that the first Monday in September marks the unofficial end of summer, or the unofficial start of the new TV season, or the kickoff for fall fashion (no white shoes after Labor Day!) or the date for a charity telethon hosted by France's favorite comedian.
But what does any of that have to do with work?
