Round Lake area schools got a surprise windfall last week, thanks to the village of Round Lake and a developer.
The money comes from a settlement the village reached with Bristol Chicago Development, which is planning to build an apartment building in the Valley Lakes development.
When the village rezoned the adjacent commercial area at Fairfield Road and Route 134 to allow for a new CVS pharmacy, it allowed for additional apartments to be built by Bristol. However, the village's sewer and water connection fees had been increased since the original plan was approved, to the tune of an additional $50,000.
