WASHINGTON _ As the Mexican ID card comes under attack in some quarters, Hispanic-rights activists are expressing satisfaction that they've made their support for the matricula consular loudly known to the federal government.

The Treasury Department has received more than 27,000 written comments _ most in favor of the matricula _ from the public, banks and others as it weighs whether financial institutions should still be able to accept the card.
