ESTES PARK, Colo. _Trail Ridge Road takes you up to marmot country.
The Alpine tundra above 11,500 feet in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park is home to yellow-bellied marmots and other high-altitude flora and fauna.
You are likely to hear and see the marmots, distant cousins of groundhogs, in rocky, shrubby meadows like those along Trail Ridge Road, the park's highway to the sky.
Trail Ridge Road stretches 48 miles over the Rocky Mountains, from Estes Park on the east to Grand Lake on the west.
