BAGHDAD, Iraq _ Sharif Ali bin Hussein, a cousin of Iraq's last monarch, returned to his native country Tuesday after 45 years in exile, offering to help his long-suffering people recover from years of totalitarian rule.
While he was coy about what role he might play in the country's future, his supporters showed no reticence as more than 1,000 representatives of tribal, religious, ethnic and civil groups welcomed him with chants of "long live the king."
