Man, they are not going to be able to keep Minis in the showrooms if "The Italian Job" is a hit. The movie's last act _ a cooler than cool chase through the L.A. subway _ plays like an extended commercial for BMW's version of the famed Mini Cooper.
Does it deserve to be a hit? Not really. It's a middling remake of a fondly remembered, cute but lightweight 1960s heist picture.
That one starred Michael Caine and was set in Rome. This one stars Mark Wahlberg and begins in Venice, then spends 100 minutes in that rarely filmed cityscape, Los Angeles.
Yawn.
Oh, and it was directed by F. Gary Gray, of "Friday," ...
