If there's such a thing as perfect pitch among wines, those produced in California's chilly Lake County by Orville and Karen Magoon have it. An admirer of French winemaking, Orville has distilled his observations and practical experience as owner of Guenoc Winery into a single phrase: "Keep it simple!"
Thus this reserve chardonnay is 100 percent chardonnay and unfiltered after 10 months of aging in small French and American oak barrels. It did undergo malolactic fermentation, though.
