CHICAGO _ In the middle of the Mesopotamian gallery at the Oriental Institute, there's a display case detailing the birth and progression of the ancient civilization that once occupied the place now known as Iraq. A blend of items from the institute's own collection with impressive photographs of major pieces in the National Museum of Iraq in Baghdad, the chronological exhibit was put there as a teaching tool for undergraduate classes at the University of Chicago.
In normal times, it would be the dullest thing in the place. As this display tells it, the really important artifacts are still in Baghdad.
