A MILITARY FOR THE AGE OF TERROR
Considering that the United States spends as much on defense as the rest of the world combined and has 1.4 million men and women under arms, it may be hard to believe that the American military is undersized. But given the scope of the challenges it faces today, that may well be the case.
Winning the war in Iraq is obviously within its capabilities. Once the war is over, though, our leaders will need to take a hard look at whether a military designed for the comparative peace of the 1990s is optimal for the demands of the 21st ...
