"A fine bell!" Able Williams said proudly. A group of men from the Philadelphia State House came closer.
"Father," Prudence Williams asked, "may I touch it, please?"
A glowing September sun came through the first-floor window of the new State House. In the middle of the room on a platform sat the Liberty Bell.
Is the bell ringer here?" asked Mr. Williams.
An Englishman stepped forward. "Yes, As soon as the bell is carried up into the bell tower, I'll be glad to test it."
"A pity it wasn't tested before," Mr. Williams said.
A young boy came up to Mr. Williams. "Sir, it was thought best not to test the bell beforehand ...
