Jul. 18--ALGOMA, Miss. -- Sweet potatoes were among the focal points Thursday during a tour demonstrating farming research and techniques.

Sweet potato crops in the United States tend to "ebb and flow," but sweet potato acreage has stayed fairly steady in Mississippi, said Mike Williams, an entomologist with Mississippi State University.

"Mississippi is the third largest sweet potato producer in the country, with about 15,000 acres of sweet potatoes," Williams said.
