Sacramento, Calif. -- In a swift qualifying heat that included 2000 Olympian Marla Runyan and three-time Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton, Minnesotan Carrie Tollefson advanced to Sunday's U.S. Olympic track and field trials 1,500-meter final.
Tollefson, in 4:09.87, was just behind Runyan (4:09.63) and Hamilton (4:09.74). Jenelle Deatherage, who trains in Minneapolis, also advanced to the 1,500 finals, with 4:15.28 in a separate heat.
It was a good comeback for Tollefson after her disappointing sixth-place finish in the 5,000 meters Monday.
