Instructor Karen MacNeil faced the three dozen students and started with a statement more likely to relax everyone than a glass of sauvignon blanc.
"You can understand wine as well as anyone in the world," she told the group, made up of people with varying degrees of wine knowledge but all attending "Mastering Wine I" to get a sure grasp of the basics. "I understand wine not because I have special taste buds; I don't. They are the same ordinary taste buds as anyone in this room."
