MORGANTOWN, W.Va. _ There was no more pacing the sidelines. There was no more exhorting his defense. Late in the third quarter of Virginia Tech's 28-7 loss to West Virginia on Wednesday night, coach Frank Beamer just stopped and stared.
He knew where this one was going, and he knew where the No. 3 Hokies' national championship aspirations were headed, too. Hope was starting to dwindle. It would be only a matter of time before thousands of Mountaineer fans were flooding the field. Sugar Bowl visions for the Hokies? Gone. Tailback Kevin Jones' Heisman Trophy dreams? Likely vanished, too.
