LAS VEGAS _ The new WBA heavyweight champ is a little lighter than the previous one.

The previous one, nicknamed The Quiet Man, didn't make a sound Saturday night, except, perhaps, "ouch."

John Ruiz was certainly not going to beat Roy Jones Jr. by a decision at Thomas & Mack Center, in front of a glittery, near-capacity crowd lured by the mysterious. And Jones, moving up from the light-heavyweight decision, probably wasn't going to knock out the 226-pound Ruiz.

Despite those two givens, Ruiz got taken.

He immobilized himself and let Jones pick and pop. Jones might not have the fastest hands in the game ...
