Pity.
If royalty checks were paid to writer Ted Kooser whenever a book lover turned a page of "Local Wonders: Seasons in the Bohemian Alps," this poet, painter and author would be a wealthy man. And justly so.
"Local Wonders" should be read and reread. It is a treasure, like the ripe wild plums Kooser, a retired insurance executive, picks along rural Nebraska roadsides.
The joy and delight of "Local Wonders" begins in the preface, where Kooser sets the record straight about his region of the Cornhusker State: "Contrary to what out-of-state tourists might tell you, Nebraska isn't flat but slightly tilted, like a long ...
