Dec. 24--Jessie Lawson and Lisa Suits find inspiration in unusual places.
In the case of their new retail business, it appeared in Suits' garage in the form of a 100-year-old stuffed leopard that was missing much of its fur and about eight inches of tail.
Suits lives with the leopard's owner, Robert Friedman, who acquired the rejected animal from the University of Missouri-Columbia when he was an art student in search of interesting models. Friedman now teaches ceramics at Stephens College.
Rumor has it that taxidermists of yore used arsenic paste to protect animal hides from vermin, or so says Suits. Discussion ...
