Dec. 24--Express Scripts Inc. of Maryland Heights said Monday that it will pay $335 million to buy CuraScript, the nation's largest specialty-pharmaceutical business.
CuraScript will operate as a stand-alone entity. Domenic Meffe, CuraScript's chief executive, will lead Express Scripts' specialty-pharmaceutical business after the acquisition is completed in the first quarter of next year. Specialty pharmaceuticals include biotech or protein drugs that are synthesized in plant or animal cells, steroids and high-powered antibiotics.
