Dec. 30--Wisconsin dairy farmers are being paid less money when they sell their cattle to slaughterhouses, a result of last week's discovery of mad cow disease in the state of Washington.
But the financial pinch on state dairy farmers will be minimal, industry observers said Monday.
The sale of dairy cattle makes up only a small share of the total revenue generated by a typical Wisconsin dairy farm. Most of that revenue comes from milk sales.
"The overall financial impact on Wisconsin dairy farms is going to be negligible," said Richard Brock, who owns Brock & Associates Inc., a Glendale commodity advisory firm.
