Dec. 19--The embattled manufacturing sector is being hit again -- this time by higher natural gas prices.
Colder weather during the past month has pushed natural gas prices to nine-month highs, and manufacturers are feeling the pinch.
"It's squeezing us," said Chuck Williams, a spokesman for PCS Nitrogen, which uses natural gas as both a raw material and energy source to produce ammonium nitrate fertilizer. "Our prices aren't going up as fast as the natural gas is."
Gas prices have steadily increased the past few years because of harsher winters and power plants switching to natural gas from coal.
