Dec. 19--Austin's unemployment rate dropped to 4.8 percent in November, its lowest level since October 2001, as new hiring by school districts and retailers bolstered employment totals, the Texas Workforce Commission reported Thursday.
Last month, there were 759,400 employed people and 38,500 unemployed people in the Austin-San Marcos area.
The November unemployment rate was down from the October rate of 5 percent and the November 2002 level of 5.3 percent.
This year has been one of recovery for the area job market. The area's unemployment rate has been falling for the past five months after peaking at 6.3 percent in June. The area also ...
