Dec. 17--Simon Property Group Inc., seeking to extend its dominance of the Central Texas retail market, broke ground Tuesday on an outdoor mall in Georgetown, one of six new projects on the drawing board for the next few years.
If the mall developer completes all of them, it would more than double the amount of retail space it controls in the region to 8.7 million square feet. In comparison, downtown Austin has about 7.25 million square feet of office space.
The Georgetown project, Wolf Ranch, will be anchored by a 124,000-square-foot Target with 50,000 additional square feet that would allow it to become a SuperTarget store, Simon officials said Tuesday.
