A NASAL spray that is designed to prevent allergic reactions could revolutionise treatment for millions of patients.
Unlike drugs that treat the symptoms of hay fever and other allergic reactions suffered by ten million people in the UK, the compound has been developed to block the reaction before it gets started.
The drug, known as R112, used by 319 patients on a clinical trial that finishes in three weeks, is said to be the first developed to tackle the root cause of allergic reactions.
The same approach may work for asthma, too, and development work is under way on a similar drug.
