Jul. 19--Peach lovers have good reason to be happy this summer. According to the Alabama Agricultural Statistical Service, Alabama peach orchards are expected to produce 31 million pounds of the juicy orbs this growing season.
Farmers started their harvests about May 10 and will continue through Labor Day.
Robert Cleckler runs the Chilton County Fruit Basket and Nursery in Prattville. His family grows the peaches that are sold there.
"We're selling better than we did last year," Cleckler said.
