Nov. 21--SHRIMPERS NOW ELIGIBLE FOR TAA: Texas shrimp producers now qualify for technical help and cash benefits because of industry losses caused by foreign imports.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) recently certified Trade Adjustment Assistance petitions for shrimp producers in three states, including Texas.
The FAS determined in a study last year that shrimp producers in Texas, South Carolina and Georgia were adversely affected by foreign imports.
Over the past five years, prices for domestic products have declined, causing a loss in income for shrimpers, according to the FAS.
