Nov. 22--Some Columbus restaurant chains have stopped using green onions in their food in the wake of deadly hepatitis A outbreaks linked to the vegetable at other restaurants.
Damon's Restaurants has banned green onions from menu items at its 140 company and franchised locations, while Cameron Mitchell Restaurants has pulled raw or lightly cooked scallions from its offerings.
A hepatitis A outbreak last month, believed to have been caused by contaminated green onions, killed three people and sickened at least 575 who ate at a Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurant in the Beaver Valley Mall, located 25 miles northeast of ...
