Dec. 7--GANANSOL, Ecuador -- The rocky dirt road veers off the paved highway, then winds its way up the mountain, bending, turning and doubling back on itself more than 15 times in 20 minutes before reaching the sleepy central plaza in the tiny village of Ganansol, high in the Andes Mountains.
On a ridge just above the plaza, Rosalva stands on the porch of a humble house sobbing uncontrollably as she clutches her 11-month-old son to her chest. Wilson, the boy's father, stands next to them, struggling to hold back his own tears.
