A roman fort on Tyneside may later have become a royal site and birthplace of a king, new evidence suggests.
Archaeologists are now speculating that the site of Arbeia fort in South Shields was the birthplace of Oswin, who in the Seventh Century became King of Deira, which was located south of the Tees.
