Oct. 9--Indigent patients may walk around sick or contagious for days or months because some emergency rooms send them home without medications and Broward County's public health system takes too long to fill their prescriptions, Legal Aid lawyers said.
Legal Aid Service of Broward filed a complaint asking the state to order hospitals to discharge low-income patients with a few days supply of drugs. Also, the state should order tax-supported clinics to fill the scripts right away instead of making patients wait until they see a clinic doctor, the complaint said.
