Sep. 27--Bladen County has received a small economic boost of late, compliments somewhat of Uncle Sam.
The county, large and rural with a population of 32,491, has announced the opening of three new industries within the last five months, all of which either contract with or sell to the U.S. military.
Two of the companies, AXICOR Inc. and Innovative Machine Technology, are within the town of Bladenboro, population 1,800.
Like other small towns in eastern North Carolina, Bladenboro's commerce slowed as textile jobs left and big retailers set up shop in neighboring, larger towns.
