Colorado, Other States Make Deep Cuts to Medicaid Programs.

Sep. 23--Hard economic times have meant sharp declines in state tax revenues and some of the deepest cuts in years to state Medicaid programs, including Colorado's.

For the first time since 1996, the growth in spending on health benefits for low-income families, the elderly and disabled slowed, according to a survey of 50 state Medicaid directors released Monday by the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured.

The commission says states are likely to continue slashing medical benefits for the poor, elderly and disabled at least into next year.

At the same time, families fallen on hard times are turning in droves to Medicaid ...
