Nov. 2--The entrance to The Fresh Market bursts with pink roses, yellow snapdragons and orange lilies.
Behind a wooden counter, a florist assembles these and other blooms into lush bouquets. A few steps away, the aroma of roasted coffee beans wafts from open bins. Around the corner, a butcher -- yes, a full-service butcher -- hand-cuts the beef piled inside his glass case.
Perhaps it's the softer lighting, the open-air European flair or the elegant bottles of imported vinegar.
For whatever reason, The Fresh Market in Hilltop North plaza in Virginia Beach stands out in Hampton Roads as a different kind of grocery ...
