Sep. 18--LAKELAND, Fla.--The Florida Citrus Commission on Wednesday agreed on creating a task force to review Florida Department of Citrus procedures criticized in a recent audit and to recommend reforms.

But the commission rejected Commissioner John Alexander's attempt to open the task force and review to Florida growers and the public.

"The Citrus Commission has failed; we failed in our oversight and direction of the executive director (Bob Crawford)," Alexander, a Lake Wales grower, said. "We need to reassure the growers we're actively pursuing policies and procedures to make sure this doesn't happen again."
