Sep. 7--Her former boss' penchant for buying small companies led Lisa Peterson to launch Streamline Consulting. An accountant by training, Peterson worked 11 years for a company that made automatic door sensors. She might have stayed on that track had the president not started buying up companies -- and calling on Peterson to check the books.
Peterson said she found a consistent pattern: smart, successful firms with surprisingly haphazard record-keeping. In some cases the accounting was so crummy it rendered putting a dollar value on the company impossible, killing a few deals, Peterson said. She recalls walking into one ...
