Sep. 10--VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.--The Navy has decided to base eight of its 10 squadrons of East Coast Super Hornets at Oceana Naval Air Station, ending three years of study and debate over where to locate the jets.
The other two squadrons will be based at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station in North Carolina. The Navy also plans to build a new practice field in Washington County, N.C.
Although the official announcement will not be made until today, word leaked out Tuesday after the Navy briefed congressional officials on the decision.
